10   The selection of an expert to serve on an expert advisory panel is made by the assistant director-general concerned on the recommendation of the technical unit responsible for the panel following consultations at the regional level.

20   The national authorities concerned are consulted on all proposed initial appointments to panels, the letter to the government being signed according to normal procedure by the Chief Scientist (SCI).  Subsequent decisions on the renewal of an appointment, or on the transfer of an expert between panels, are made by the responsible assistant director-general, who signs the relevant correspondence with the panel member.

30   The Department of Quality Assurance for Norms and Standards (SCI/QNS) prepares the formal correspondence with governments and experts relating to appointments, renewals, transfers, terminations and resignations, keeps a central record of panel membership and may be consulted on any procedural issues.

40   Technical units wishing to appoint experts to advisory panels make their suggestions using ePanel, an Organization-wide electronic system to process appointments of members of expert advisory panels, and renewal or non-renewal of their appointments. ePanel is available in the eWork BPM portal.
