General

60    Under Staff Rule 740.2, not more than seven working days of uncertified absences within one (1) calendar year may be charged to sick leave.

70    Part or all of this uncertified sick leave may be granted to attend to a staff member's serious family-related emergencies which could include absences to provide support in cases of illness or hospitalization of an immediate family member (spouse, child, father/mother, brother/sister). Such leave may be granted for a number of consecutive days up to the total maximum of seven (7) working days per calendar year, provided that the staff member has not exhausted the uncertified sick leave.

80    Uncertified sick leave may be carried forward from one temporary contract to the next, if there is no break in service, provided the maximum of seven (7) days per calendar year is not exceeded. After a break in service, it cannot be carried forward to the next appointment, regardless of the duration of the interruption of service. Uncertified sick leave may not be authorized during a period of previously approved annual leave. Any absence on uncertified sick leave in excess of the maximum allowed will be charged to annual leave. If the annual leave credit is insufficient, the days in excess will be deducted from the final payment.

90    Uncertified sick leave may be used for a combination of sick leave of the staff member and family-related emergencies up to the maximum allowed.

100   No later than the first day of absence, the staff member must inform the supervisor of the reason and probable duration of the absence.
