10 All communications material is subject to clearance procedures as outlined in the standard operating procedures for communications as detailed in the communications toolbox - the COMMSBOX (under development).
20 Numbers and statistics must be accurate and presented in the right context and must be cleared by the Information, Evidence and Research cluster.
30 Material for corporate communications priorities, as identified by the Department of Communications, must be cleared by the Office of the Director-General (or the corresponding office of the regional director), in order to ensure consistency, credibility and adherence to best practices for effective health communications.
40 The following must be cleared by the Department of Communications in the Office of the Director-General :
- news releases and other news products;
- plans and material for press conferences and press briefings;
- health campaign material for identified corporate priorities such as World Health Assembly-mandated health days, events involving the Director-General, etc. (see levels of service and standard operating procedures for communications in the COMMSBOX - under development);
- talking points for major public health and humanitarian emergencies and corporate crises;
- material appearing on the corporate web pages;
- new web sites or major revisions of existing sites, prior to launch;
- fact sheets for the WHO web site;
- corporate messages for social media;
- audio-visual material for corporate priorities including those linked to the corporate web site or intended for use on corporate accounts for social media;
- quotes, speeches and statements attributed to the Director-General;
- communications strategies and plans for corporate events and priorities;
- communications work related to Goodwill Ambassadors or other high-profile spokespersons.
50 All other material, including material for the web site must be approved by the respective director and assistant director-general or the respective head of WHO office and the office of the regional director.
