10 Consultants who are required to perform all or part of the work at another location than their place of residence, may receive an amount to cover living expenses, up to a maximum of the official per diem rate for the location. This amount should be negotiated by the hiring manager.
20 At HQ and Regional Office locations, consultants and temporary advisors on long term stays are expected to find cost effective accommodation arrangements, and therefore receive a living allowance lower than the full per diem rate for the location. Accordingly, a maximum ceiling amount should be established and published at HQ and RO locations for consultants and technical advisors on long term stays. The full WHO per diem rates will be applied, up to the maximum monthly ceiling, i.e. per consecutive periods of 30 calendar days. The allowance would then be applied at a daily rate (monthly rate divided by 30 = daily rate) per extra day.
Example calculation for Geneva: Monthly ceiling = CHF3,000/month. Length of stay = 45 days. Living allowance = 3,000+(15x100) = CHF4,500.
