10 The staff physician may prescribe such immunizations as they deem necessary for staff members at the time of their appointment or during their WHO service, as required by conditions prevailing in the country of assignment. Newly recruited staff members are asked to have these immunizations before leaving the country of the place of recruitment, and to present their International Certificate of Vaccination (see below) for examination to the staff physician on arrival at the office to which they report for duty. At any other time during their WHO service, immunizations are normally carried out by the staff physician.

20 Staff members who are required to travel on long or short-term assignments for the Organization to areas where certain diseases are endemic or epidemic, or where there are special health hazards, should consult the staff physician as far in advance of their departure as possible about the immunizations/prophylaxis it will be necessary or advisable for them to have, and on any other precautions they should take to safeguard their health. In addition, those staff members who are aware that their functions render them especially liable to be called on at short notice to travel to any part of the world should ensure that those immunizations which are required in certain countries are never allowed to become invalid (see III.20 Annex 15.A).

30 The family members of staff members accompanying them to countries where certain immunizations are required or recommended are also expected to be vaccinated in their home country before departure. When family members of staff members are authorized to travel at the expense of the Organization, the required and recommended immunizations will be reimbursed by the Organization subject to the submission of receipts.

40 A record of all immunizations given is kept on each staff member's International Certificate of Vaccination, which is issued to them at the time of their first immunization if they do not possess one already. A list of the required and recommended immunizations appears in III.20 Annex 15.A.
