10 Fixed-term appointments expire automatically on the completion of the agreed period of service or at the end of any extension of the original appointment unless the Organization offers an extension which the staff member accepts. In accordance with Staff Rule
1040, notice is given in writing, either by the Organization if extension is not contemplated or by the staff member if they do not wish to be considered for reappointment. The period of notice is fixed by Staff Rule
1040 at no less than three months before the expiry of the appointment.

30 The supervisor will explain to a staff member the reasons for the decision not to renew an appointment.
40 The HRBP/RHRO concerned will give the staff member in writing notification of completion of appointment under Staff Rule 1040. The HRBP/RHRO shall provide the staff member with 3 months' notice if holding a continuing or fixed-term appointment or 1 months' notice if serving on a temporary appointment.
50 The HRBP/RHRO concerned will upload all the related documentation in the staff member's
personnel folder and inform the HR Action plan owner or their designee in order for them to initiate the separation action. After the separation action is initiated, the HR Administrator, GSC provides the staff member with all information concerning the separation and undertakes the appropriate administrative action.
60 A staff member whose appointment comes to an end at the completion of the agreed period of service is eligible for an end-of-service grant under Staff Rule
375 provided that the staff member has:

completed five years of continuous qualifying service;

had their performance certified as being satisfactory under the performance management and development system or other previous record of performance;
-
not declined an extension of appointment;
-
not reached the age of retirement.
